Social marketing has so far been extensively used in the area of health and other social issues. It has rarely been applied to peacebuilding engagement. In essence, social marketing is a strategy for bringing about change – in the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and larger groups. Therefore, it can be applied to the field of peacebuilding/conflict transformation. This chapter first looks at what social marketing is and how it relates to media advocacy, before suggesting ways of applying it to peacebuilding initiatives.
