Activity: Conflict Stages
This activity applies the tool "conflict stages".

| Materials: | Flip charts Marker pens in different colours Note books and pens Handout "Conflict stages" Handout "Conflict timelines" |
| Process: | 1. Introduce the "conflict stages" tool. The content provides three variants, choose one of them according to your needs. Use visual aids to illustrate the model. 2. In small groups of 3-5, groups are now asked to analyse the stages of a conflict and illustrate it on a flip chart. This can be done with a conflict that the groups are familiar with (due to their personal and professional experience) or for one or two conflicts that you have prepared time-lines (and other materials) for, such as the post-election violence in Kenya 2007/08 or the conflict in Uganda (see handouts below) or a conflict that fits better with the needs and experience of your participants. If the groups work with a familiar conflict, ask them to develop a brief time-line first, writing down the mile-stones in the development of the conflict. These milestones can then be used to analyse what stages the conflict has gone through. 3. The flipcharts shall be displayed on the walls of the training facility and can be studied by all participants following the group work. 4. After the exercise, discuss with participants e.g. the following questions:
