Activity: Find examples! This is a featured page

Conflict types can be categorised in different ways. Here, two alternatives shall be introduced: Types of conflict according to LEVELS and types of conflict according to ISSUES.

Purpose:To find examples for different conflict types
To think of different opportunities and challenges for dealing with the different conflict types
Participants:4 to 20.

Time: 30 min.

Materials:Notebooks and pens
Possibly Flip charts and marker pens

Process:1. Introduce two categorisations of conflict types (see content here).

2. Organise participants into groups of 4-6. Each group will only work with one categorisation, make sure that the two categorisations are evenly distributed among the groups (of you have 4 groups, 2 will deal with levels and 2 with issues). Assign the task to the groups:
  • Find illustrative examples (real conflict situations) for each of the conflict types in your categorisation.
  • What opportunities and challenges for peacebuilders to deal with the different conflict types can you think of?
3. Let one group for each categorisation report back in plenary and gather comments from the participants.
