Activity: How do you plan and implement projects?This is a featured page


Purpose:
  • To explore existing project management (planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning) practices (see here learning cycle)
  • To make participants conscious about the weight of planning their initiatives for the process of PME & L
Participants:5 to many

Time: 60-90 min.

Materials:
  • Flipcharts
  • Marker pens
  • Note books and pens
  • Masking tape
Process:I) Participants will work together in groups (preferably 3-4n participants per group, but depending on the total number of participants and if possible from different organisations in one group).

II) Assign the task:
  • The participants shall present and discuss how they plan and manage their peacebuilding initiatives.
  • After group members have presented this in the group, let them discuss the following questions:
    • What similarities do the planning and management practices presented have?
    • What differences do you see?
    • What do we need to know when we want to start a new project? With whom do we have to consult?
    • What steps are necessary to plan a project?
    • Why is planning important?
  • Ask them to summarise their answers on flipcharts.
  • Walk the room and answer questions of the groups if necessary.
  • The group work should take about 60 min. (longer if needed).
III) Each group presents their findings in plenary.

IV) Summarise the major insights of the session.
