| Purpose: | To get started with the topic To explore participants' understanding of media |
| Participants: | at least 5, up to 20 (Will probably work best with around 10 participants) |
| Time: | 30 min. |
| Materials: | White board and pens (or flip chart and marker pens) |
| Process: | 1. Write "media" on the white board (or flip chart) in front. Ask participants to get up and come in stand in front. Hand a pen to two participants. Assign the task: Participants to write their associations with the term on the whiteboard, this could be concrete examples, characteristics of media, a translation to their native language, etc. 2. The two participants with the pens will start and write one association on the board. The pen is then passed to the next person. This process moves on until the board is filled and/or participants seem to run out of associations. Participants can in later rounds pass the pen on if they do not have further ideas. 3. Let participants return to their seats and take a moment to study the board. 4. Together with participants, explore how terms can be brought into an order. (Grouping for instance media channels, such as TV, Radio, theater, media roles, such as journalists, tv producers, publishing houses, translations of the term, new and old media, etc.). 5. Draw some conclusions together with the group. |
