| Purpose: | To refine and select the best and most useful indicators for a project or programme |
| Participants: | 4-8, 9 Participants should be made up of all or key members of the team working with the project, management should ideally also be included. |
| Time: | At least 2hrs, more time might be necessary (depending on the nature of the programme). |
| Materials: | Indicator tables (see here) for the results chain Handout "Developing indicators" Flipcharts Marker pens Notebooks and pens |
| Process: | 1. If necessary, remind participants of the achievements in indicator development so far. Distribute the indicator tables that list all ideas for indicators from the "How will we see that the results are obtained?" activity. Ask participants to repeat individually what criteria for good indicators are (with the help of the handout "Developing indicators"). After some minutes, collect criteria on a flipchart in plenary. 3. Now it is time to look at the indicator tables, keeping these criteria in mind. Take one table at a time and in a facilitated group process, think about such questions as:
When doing this, it would be good to already reflect now, which forms of data collection could be used to measure the indicators selected. 4. Continue this process for all results. Make sure that there are sufficient breaks in between. |
