| Purpose: | For participants to develop an "initial" understanding of the conflict (what is it about and how has it developed) as a basis of conducting an analysis of the conflict system |
| Participants: | 8 to about 20 |
| Time: | about 90 min. |
| Materials: | Flip charts Marker pens |
| Process: | 1. Organise participants in two groups and assign the task: Group 1 will analyse the historical development of the conflict with the conflict stages tool. Group 2 will conduct a force field analysis. If not done at earlier stages in the training, distribute handouts with the respective method to the groups. Allow 60 min. of group work. Groups should note their key findings on flip charts. 2. Let groups present their findings in plenary so that the respective other group will also be able to draw on the group's insights. 3. Leave room for discussion among participants. |
| Note: | If you work with a mixed group (participants coming from different backgrounds), start by chosing one conflict that all are relatively familiar with or by handing out a conflict case study. |
