Activity - Title
Purpose:To identify what relevance systems thinking has for doing conflict analysis
Participants:4 to 20 or more

Time: around 60 min.

Materials:Flip charts
Marker pens
Process:1. Organise participants in groups of 4 and write two questions on a flip chart in front:

  • When you used "traditional" conflict analysis tools, what weaknesses and deficiencies have you encountered?
  • When you think about what you have so far learnt about systems thinking, what benefits could its application hold for conflict analysis? What can we learn about a conflict when using systems thinking that we can't learn so easily with other tools?
Ask groups to work in groups and note their answers on flipcharts. Allow at least 45 min. time. The group work is a good opportunity to recap what participants have learned so far.

2. Let participants present findings in plenary and facilitate discussion.
