Purpose:
  • To explore participants' understanding of change in peacebuilding;
  • To introduce the basic concepts of change as cognitive restructuring.
Time:

Participants:

Materials:

Process:
I) Ask the following question to participants (it helps to have the questions written down in a flip chart paper):

What is change?

Encourage responses from the participants. Note that this being a brainstorming session, quantity is more important than quality; do not judge participants' contributions and just note them down on a flip chart paper. After 5-10 minutes, look at the results and highlight similarities and repetitions. Possibly, encourage participants to further clarify their responses.

II) Now ask the following question to participants:

What is the relationship between peacebuilding, learning and change?

Facilitate brainstorming as above.

III) Introduce this content on peacebuilding, learning and change. You lecture participants with the help of visual aids. Alternatively, you can use a Content Processing Activity in order to introduce the new content in an interactive way.
