Changes

Key:  Additions   Deletions

Purpose:
  • To get participants involved in the topic
  • To explore potentially existing concerns of participants for using PME & L for their initiatives
  • To get a first impression of exisiting experiences and knowledge in the group by exploring their ideas
Participants:5 to many, could be time-consuming with more than 15 participants

Time: 30-60 min., depending on the number of participants

Materials:
  • Flipcharts
  • Marker pens
  • Post-its
  • Masking tape
Process:This activity fits best when you start to introduce the topic.

I) Write the termwords Planning,"Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and LearningLearning" on a flip chart. Prepare other blank flip chart papers on the wall in a way visible to all participants.

II) Distribute post-its to participants. Ask participants to right down their associations to PME & L in their field of work, i.e. peacebuilding on the post-its. Give participants 5 min. time to write down their ideas.

III) Ask participants to read out their associations to the group. Note them on the prepared flip-charts, try to classify and associate them (Does(for example: does the association refer to a challenge? An opportunity? Is it a concern? A strength?). Do not write the categories on the flipcharts, just jot down associations of participants.

IV) When you have heard all participants, ask them to look at the flip charts and give headlines to the different papers.

V) Ask the group to comment on what they see on the walls. You can facilitate with questions, e.g.:
  • Could you look at this point from another perspective?
  • Is this challenge an opportunity?
  • When you think about the topic for today's training, how do you see the participants associations?
