| Purpose: | To digest, apply and develop further the opportunities and challenges for using PME&L in peacebuilding initiatives |
| Participants: | 6 to many, three groups need to be formed. |
| Time: | 30-60 min. |
| Materials: | Note books or index cards, pens A price for the winning group |
| Process: | 1) You can start by introducing the content "Results-based PME&L for peacebuilding initiatives. Opportunities and Challenges" (click here). Keep your lecture short, try to stick to the most important points. Distribute a handout with your lecture to the participants. 2. Organise your participants in three groups: one group that promotes the use of PME&L in peacebuilding (focus on the opportunities), one groups rejects using PME&L for peacebuilding initiatives (because of the challenges) and a third group takes a more neutral stance and weighs opportunities and challenges. 3. Introduce the groups to their role. Give groups sufficient time (20-30 min.) to develop their position in the debate: while the positive and negative groups list arguments for or against, the neutral groups list arguments for both sides. Participants can use the handout from the lecture and their rich experience to develop their argument. In big groups, ask participants to select two speakers for the debate. Speakers can use index cards to jot down their arguments and ideas. 4. When the group has finished their discussions, engage the group in rearranging the room for a panel discussion. The neutral group and group members who are not speakers will constitute the audience of the debate. 5. The positive and negative group engage in the debate with each other. 6. When all arguments have been exchanged, ask the neutral group to select the winning group, who will also get a price. |
