CPA: For ExampleThis is a featured page

Purpose:
  • To illustrate the content to introduce through examples;
  • To help participants connect the content to introduce with real life.
Time: At least 30 minutes.
Participants: At least three participants.
Materials:
  • Flip chart papers;
  • Markers;
Process: I) Before the training, prepare a presentation of the content you would like to introduce to participants. Include one-two examples to illustrate the content. Try to contain your presentation in maximum 10 minutes.

II) Ask participants to divide in groups of 3-6 people. Allow group members to sit close to each other and have a working space.

III) Explain that their task is to share experiences that relate to the topics introduced in the presentation and generate 2-3 examples that illustrate that content.

IV) Let groups start working and assign sufficient time. Walk the room and assist if needed.

V) Invite groups to conclude their work. Ask group members to remain seated and think for one minute in silent to the stories and examples that have just been shared.

VI) Ask each group to choose one example that they think more relevant to illustrate the content introduced. Ask each group to nominate a spokesperson.

VII) Let each group illustrate their example. Encourage Q&As and facilitate discussion.
Debriefing: Not needed.
Note:Alternatives to this process include:

  • You can ask each group to write down the example they choose on an index card and circulate the cards between groups.
  • You can divide the plenary in pairs, instead of groups of 3-6 people. Then ask each person to share a story or generate an example that illustrates the concept introduced.
  • Once stories or examples are generated, you can ask the groups to build a scenario out of it and role-play it.
