Changes

Key:  Additions   Deletions
Purpose:
  • To have participants delivering presentations of the content;
  • To process the content in a participative way.
Time: It can be very quick, even 15 minutes; but requires preparation before the workshop.
Participants: Any number.
Materials: Handouts prepared in advance with the content of the presentation.
Process: I) Before the workshop write down your presentation. If possible, divide the presentation in two or more parts and prepare a handout for each of these parts.

II) Before the workshop get a list with the names and contact details of all participants. Divide them into as many groups as the parts of your presentation – ex. if you have divided your content in three parts, divide the group of participants into three parts.

III) Get in touch with participants and tell that you are going to send them handouts with some of the content that will be introduced during the workshop and that you are asking them to study it. Send the handouts.

IV) During the workshop, ask for one or more volunteers from the first group to deliver the first part of presentation. Stimulate the plenary to intervene with questions and comments. Ask the rest of the first group to join in the discussion and let the content be process thoroughly.

V) Repeat the procedure with the other groups according to the workshop agenda.
Note: You can prepare the entire content you wish to introduce in a workshop with this template and have participants delivering presentations throughout the whole workshop.

This activity can only be used when you have the possibility to get in touch with the participants before the workshop and you can let them have the handouts.

There is some risk of loosing control over the quality of the presentations, ending up with messy presentations of the content you planned to introduce. Use this activity with care, possibly when you have a reasonable expectation that participants are eager and able to do it. Also, make sure that your handouts are written in plain language and easy to understand, making participants’ job easier.
